Happy…Happy…Happy!
I received a bit of VERY good news yesterday!
Stephen Fisher Photography has been juried into the 2013 Rockport Art Festival. I got the confirming email yesterday…and I’m HAPPY! This annual festival is one of the best shows anywhere.
Even though it’s a MILLION degrees hot over the Fourth of July weekend, fine art buyers flock to Rockport, TX. I was fortunate to make this show last year, and it really added a boost to my photography business. I feel very fortunate to have been selected this year.
OK…So now I have to start planning for this. But first…I need to have a couple of strong months finishing up the Coast Bend Wildlife Photo Contest. More later
Texas Photo Ranch
After MONTHS of hard work, the brand new pit blinds and concrete-lined water holes at the Texas Photo Ranch are ready! These are world-class blinds that allow ground-level viewing of birds and mammals feeding and drinking. Photographers, birders, and all nature lovers now have the opportunity to enjoy this remarkable ranch…
These are a couple of images that owner Wade Grassedonio and photographer/friend Steve Cashell sent over to me. The guests enter the blinds from the rear…walk down three or four steps…and find themselves with a perfect ground-level view of the ponds. Each of the five blinds will hold up to three people very comfortably.
I’ll be spending hours and hours every day in these blinds as I represent the Texas Photo Ranch in the Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest starting in just 15 days.
Please give Wade a call at (361) 549-4929 to book some time. I’d also be happy to answer any questions you might have about the VERY special place…
ARToberFEST Recap…
OK…The ARToberFEST down on Galveston Island last weekend was a HUGE success for Stephen Fisher Photography! Not only did we set a single-day sales record on Saturday, we had the best two-day show ever. The whole weekend was perfect…in a LOT of different ways.
The organizers had Post Office Street in Galveston closed off to all vehicles all weekend. All of the booths were set-up right in the middle of the street…with pedestrian access on three sides of your booth. It was VERY nice not to be squeezed in next to your neighbor like sardines in a can. The weather was perfect…the patron traffic was great…and we had a lot of fun!
The local store-owners also benefitted from this show. I spoke with several of them and they all LOVED the increased foot traffic on Post Office Street. This was a win-win for everyone…
I had the opportunity to meet a nice couple who recently opened a clothing/jewelry boutique there on Post Office Street. We’ve agreed in principle with them for me to put my art in their store. This is exactly what I’ve been wanting to do, and I think this will turn out to be a “good thing” for both of us. We’ll be meeting later on this week to crunch out all of the details. I’ll keep you in the loop as this progresses…
This is a snapshot of the booth. We received a ton of compliments on both our set-up and our art. People were VERY kind and expressed their enjoyment of seeing our unique style of digital photography. It was motivational to me as an artist and just made me feel good…
I’m Back…Again…
I’m NOT going to whine…for too long. The truth of the matter is that my life has been just crazy for the last three or four months. Not always crazy in a bad way…just kinda sorta crazy. I won’t bore everyone to death with all of the gory…Hmmm, gory is probably TOO strong…details. I will do better…I will do better…
Back to Stephen Fisher Photography. Things are good…VERY good! The Rockport Art Festival was very successful for us. 2012 was the first year we applied…and we made it in! I was proud of our booths…and even more proud of our art. People were MOST kind with their comments and purchases. I learned a LOT at this show. Maybe for the first time I felt like a legitimate artist! I can do THIS!
We’ll be exhibiting in at least two more big shows this year. I also expect to hear today if my application for a show on Galveston Island was accepted. That would be GOOD! More on these shows later.
I need to get out and SHOOT something! Most of my time lately has been spent building back up inventory. More later…SEF
Rockport Art Festival…
Stephen Fisher Photography has been juried into the Rockport Art Festival for 2012 as an exhibitor! This is one of the premier art festivals on the Coastal Bend and is held annually over the Fourth of July weekend. I’m flattered that the jury deemed my submission worthy of being selected.
Here’s how it works. I think this is how it works…maybe. I selected three of my images to be presented to the Jury for consideration. There are always many more entries than booth space for the festival. The Jury then makes it’s selections from all of the entries. I’m not sure who comprises the Jury, but usually it is made up of someone from the Rockport Center for the Arts, distinguished local artists, local gallery owners, etc. Something like that…
OK…So now I’ve got a little over three months to get my “you know what” together. I’ll need to get a booth. I’ve been borrowing a booth from my friend John Martell for Rockport Market Days. I’m sure that John will be exhibiting at the Rockport Art Festival, so I’ll need one my own.
I’ve been working pretty hard building up my inventory. I do everyting myself except for the printing. Putting it all together as a gallery wrap, framed piece, photo note card, or matted print is FUN for me. I like to control as much of the process as I can when it comes to my art. After all…I do have the time!
I’m VERY proud of this! Honestly…I’m pleasantly SHOCKED about all of the great opportunities that have come my way. I’l keep updating my preparations for this show here…SEF
Treehouse Art Collective…
I mentioned in my last post that I had met a nice artist at the Whooping Crane Festival in Port Aransas, TX. Kathy Wagner is one of the co-owners of the Treehouse Art Collective in Corpus Christi, TX. We talked about the possibility of Stephen Fisher Photography exhibiting in their gallery as an Associate Artist. I emailed some of my images to Kathy…she forwarded them on to her partners…and BINGO! Another co-owner… Ellen Fehrenkamp…called me early this week with some GREAT news. Long story short…they all liked my images! We have signed a contract, and on Monday I’ll be delivering some of my images to the Treehouse for exhibit…
I went to the Treehouse last night to meet everyone and get the feel of the gallery. It was Art Walk night in Corpus Christi and the place was jumping. These folks are very nice and extremely talented. The location is perfect! I’m really looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with the Treehouse Art Collective. Please take a look at the Treehouse Art Collective website and let me know what you think…SEF
Gallery Updates…
I’ve been pretty busy trying to download more images to my website galleries. I think I’ve FINALLY locked on to a decent system…we’ll see!
This is a pretty little Black-Throated Sparrow that I photographed a couple of months ago down at the Santa Clara Ranch. I’ll be heading back down there at the end of April for another shoot.
Just had a busy weekend down in Rockport, TX. I tried to get out both Saturday and Sunday mornings to shoot, but just didn’t find anything happening. I watched a really nice Kingfisher work for a while, but couldn’t get a decent image made.
Met with the owner of a nice gallery/restaurant on Saturday night. I’d really like to get some of my images exhibited there. We also discussed another potential opportunity that I can’t discuss right now. It is potentionally VERY exciting.
OK…Please take a look at some of the new galleries. Let me know what you think…SEF
Finally…
I’ve been off the radar for a while…But I’ve been busy!
Back in September I decided to fire that loser David Wilson. David has been my friend and “Technology Guru” for a long time. He was there back in 2005 when I moved aboard Prime Time and wanted to start blogging while I cruised that wonderful boat. He was there as I migrated On Prime Time to a couple of other blog platforms. He’s ALWAYS been there for me…
So when I decided to try something REALLY different…David bags out on me! He went to work “for the Man” and didn’t have free time to help his old Buddy out on this new project. I even offered to pay him! WTF!
I decided to follow my head and heart and combine my blog and my photography in one place. I started Stephen Fisher Photography and hooked up with JR Customization to integrate EVERYTHING. SmugMug…Wordpress blog…Facebook…Twitter…and a new logo. It’s been a process, but I really like these guys. We’ll be fine-tuning for a while…but we’re up.
I’m getting all of my images organized and downloaded to my SmugMug site. It’s a “work in progress”, but I’m getting there. Please bear with me through this learning curve.
I have a lot of balls up in the air right now…and it’s all good! Let me know what you think…SEF
